Soraya Interiors: The Name and the Business

The Origin of Soraya Interiors

Many inquire about the inspiration behind the name of our business, Soraya Interiors. In this blog, we aim to shed light on the history and meaning of the name “Soraya” and its connection to the establishment of Soraya Interiors.

I’ll delve into the rich history and meaning of the name, its personal connection to my life, and how it became the cornerstone of my venture.

The History and Meaning of Soraya

A Royal Legacy: Soraya, a Persian name, translates to ‘gem’ or ‘princess.’ It gained prominence through Princess Soraya of Iran, born in 1932, known for her beauty, grace, and connection to the Iranian royalty. Her life, from Berlin to Isfahan, and her iconic marriage to Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, left an indelible mark. Despite her struggles, Queen Soraya maintained elegance and allure, captivating hearts until her passing in 2001.

From Berlin to Tehran: Raised in both Berlin, Germany, and Isfahan, Iran, Princess Soraya’s journey was one of cross-cultural experiences. Her education took her to Switzerland and London, where she honed her English language skills. This diverse upbringing laid the foundation for her future endeavors.

A Queen’s Transition to the Silver Screen: On 12 February 1951, Princess Soraya became Queen Soraya of Iran as the second wife to Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Renowned for her natural beauty, she captivated hearts not only as a queen but also as an actress. Her wedding dress, a masterpiece by Christian Dior—a soft silver lame gown adorned with pearls and elegant feathers—amplified her inherent charm.

Legacy and Departure: Despite the glamour, Queen Soraya faced challenges, including the inability to produce an heir, leading to her divorce in April 1958. Following this chapter, she relocated to France, where she embarked on a brief film career, recognized simply as “Soraya.” Her life journey concluded in Paris, France, on 26 October 2001, at the age of 69.

Being Named:

Soraya Louise: A Name with Meaning I owe my name to my mother’s encounter with a young girl named Soraya in her childhood neighborhood. The name’s beauty and the historical significance of Queen Soraya led to my being named as Soraya Louise. Recognizing its strength and elegance, I chose it as the brand name for my business, Soraya Interiors.

Soraya Interiors: A Regal Essence

In adopting the name Soraya for my business, I aim to encapsulate the essence of beauty, grace, and cultural richness that Princess Soraya embodied. Soraya Interiors strives to bring regality into the realm of interior design, inspired by the timeless elegance of its namesake.

My Inspiration:

From TV Screens to Interior Dreams Watching Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer transform houses into homes on ‘Location Location Location‘ fueled my passion for home interiors. The transformative power of homemade or UK-made products, as showcased on ‘Kirstie’s Homemade Home,’ inspired me to contribute to creating stunning homes. Mirrors, with their ability to enhance light and space, became my chosen accessory for affordable home transformations.
